A few days ago, many fans of TVXQ became shocked when they searched for the solo comeback MV "Thank you" of member Yunho and found that it's 19+ age-restricted. This concerned many fans of SM entertainment groups as this is the 2nd MV to which this has happened, so most likely, it won't be the last.
The first MV that SM entertainment themselves have manually requested to be 19+ age-restricted was DJ Hyo (Hyoyeon of Girls' Generation) "Sober" 2-3 weeks ago. The English version MV of the song had hit big globally in early 2020, gaining about 48M views 2 years after its release. It was estimated that the MV would reach 100M as its daily views had reached up to 500K daily at its highest. After the age-restriction, the MV daily views have dropped down to 4 000K. Fans of the Girls' Generation member were angry and disappointed in her company and even called the 19+ age-restriction "sabotage" against the Hyoyeon and her career since she had recently revealed that she had been receiving many offers from abroad due to her success songs.
What has concerned many fans of other groups like EXO, RED VELVET, NCT Super Junior, and Shinee is that previous MVs might now be considered 19+ rated. No one knows why SM entertainment is personally requesting a 19+ age restriction on their MVs since "Sober" and "Thank you" fit the standard guidelines of youtube perfectly. Considering these two MVs previous releases by SM groups like EXO "Lotto", "Monster", Red Velvet "Russian roulette", "Bad boy" and other MVs of NCT, Super Junior, Girls' Generation, and F(x) Shinee might also get age restricted due to there being hints of violence and nudity.
